Hello lovely ones and happy almost New Moon in Libra…
Here we are on the cusp of the dark night of the Moon when the moon is barely visible to the naked eye and the sky is almost a clear canvas, setting us up for the New Moon.
At this time we can feel an emptiness, a void of sorts and some people report that they find the dark moon period more emotionally challenging than a Full Moon because of that feeling of emptiness… so if you are feeling those feels, that’s why!
As you will no doubt be aware, this New Moon is in Libra, and on Friday, Libra’s ruler Venus turned retrograde in Scorpio.
During her retrograde Venus will sashay back into Libra, over the course of this next lunation (aka lunar cycle).
Retrogrades are times for reflection, resetting and reviewing and hopefully most of you would have read the Venus retrograde blog to get an idea of the energies of this particular retrograde and themes for us to work on.
Retrogrades aren’t all bad news or doom and gloom, but I am sure most of you know that they can be challenging.
The fact that the ruler of this New Moon and next lunar cycle turned retrograde just prior to the New moon, combined with the fact that this New Moon has some tough astrological aspects explains the Soulstrology theme for this 2018 Libra New Moon.
More on this shortly….but first, remember that for each of us, regardless of our zodiac sign, this New Moon is drawing our attention to relationships of all sorts because Libra is the ruler of partnerships and close one to one relationships - from professional, to platonic, to romantic.
Open enemies also come under the domain of Libra, but are not necessarily often talked about but Soulstrology tells us that at this particular New Moon we need to be thinking about these ‘relationships’ too.
Open enemies can be people we are having an outright conflict with (lawsuits, etc) as well as people we are formally in competition with (our business competitors etc, maybe frenemies…).
So these are all themes for us to be thinking about at this New Moon as well as over the next lunar cycle.
As this New Moon falls at 15 degrees of Libra you can check exactly where this falls in your chart and any planets you have between 12 and 18 degrees of Libra which will be activated by this New Moon. Do this if you are more of a Soulstrology pro… and if you aren’t, don’t stress!
If you are more of a beginner or want a simpler approach, then please simply check the Soulstrology guide at the end of this blog and read for both your Sun and Rising sign to see the life areas which are being brought into the cosmic spotlight both at this New Moon and over the next lunation.
Remember that regardless of the house (and therefore areas of life) that this New Moon falls in, you need to be thinking about (and perhaps setting goals) in relation to relationships in the context of those areas of life.
It may be that you think about a relationship with a more intangible thing as opposed to a person.
For example, if the New Moon falls in your second house (personal finances, income, possessions, values, self-esteem) you may be thinking about your relationship with money, your relationship with yourself (your self-esteem) and your relationship to your values/value system.
I use the second house and the life areas as an example but you can apply this example to any house/areas of life.
Onward to why this New Moon is so challenging….
I want you to think back to the lunar eclipse at the end of January this year…remember the Leo lunar eclipse? (I do, as I had a car accident, yikes!)
Even though that was a Leo lunar eclipse and this is a Libra New Moon, there are many almost identical celestial aspects arising (most importantly between Neptune and Ceres) which means that the themes of that time are somewhat mirrored at this time.
In many ways issues you faced at that time (which was really the start of 2018) are ones which you may be able to REsolve, find REsolution in, REconcile, or REset - a la retrograde...
Now there is an intensity to this New Moon as a result of the New Moon squaring Pluto in Capricorn…
For the world at large this is about fairness, peace, harmony and the patriarchy……that tension between the desire for harmonious relationships, equality and fairness and the desire of the patriarchy, the powers that be to be top dog.
For them to maintain control (Pluto) of existing structures (Capricorn) and to retain power (Pluto) of the status quo of governance (Capricorn).
Onward to us…for each of us this means that there is a tension between the Libra ruled part of our lives (relationships of all sorts plus the areas of life governed by Libra in our unique charts) and the existing status quo (Pluto in Capricorn - plus the life areas governed by Capricorn in our unique charts).
Squares are tense astrological aspects which create conflict.
If you imagine two people squaring off against each other, it is a similar thing going on with the life areas ruled by Libra and Capricorn in our charts - a tense squaring off, things reaching a breaking point, and maybe even a falling out of sorts….
To add to this tension at the New Moon is another square between Mars and Venus.
Traditionally Mars and Venus represent the male and female archetypes.
Mars being the masculine energy.
The raw energy of desire and power - leadership, sex, war, pure powerful manifesting energy - what has always been considered a more masculine energy.
Venus being the feminine energy.
The energy of love, beauty and receptivity - peace, romance, creativity and the more receptive, flowing, harmonious energy.
It literally feels like a tug of war between male and female energies and archetypes (and interesting that this is taking place at this time when in America certainly all of these themes are being played out on a wider, public stage).
But what about us as individuals? How does this play out and what can we do with these energies?
For us these tense square aspects can be forcing us to see the friction and incompatibility within the existing structures (Pluto in Capricorn) of our relationships (New Moon in Libra).
It can force things which need to fall apart and ‘die’ to do so (Pluto rules death and endings of sorts).
It can help create a rebirth of certain relationships where appropriate (Pluto also rules rebirth and Venus retrograde can certainly bring reconciliations and rebirths to relationships of all sorts).
But we need to find some sort of equanimity and harmony between the dynamics of our relationships with others - whether we are male/female - or however we identify - and regardless of the gender combination of relationships with others we are trying to find balance in.
In order to do this we need to find that balance first and foremost within ourselves.
Of the Mars and Venus energies, balancing the more masculine energies and the more feminine energies (all themes as above).
When we are doing all of this, we may find that certain dynamics (and relationships) have to fall apart to be reborn, a la Pluto in Capricorn.
We may find that others need to be allowed to disintegrate because they no longer truly serve us (or, where appropriate, the other person).
We also might find that certain parts of us - how we operate and certain traits we have, are what need to fall away or be recreated so we can enjoy a better relationship with ourselves and others.
We must keep in mind that whatever is occurring for each of us over this New Moon (and the next six weeks of Venus retrograde) and whatever falls apart, is falling apart for a good reason - for a higher purpose, and ultimately for our highest good.
Now you may be reading this and thinking….well, this feels very Full Moony and a bit heavy, but this is a New Moon, aren’t I supposed to be setting intentions?
Yes this New Moon and lunar cycle does have a more heavy feeling that most New Moons and lunations, but that’s not a ‘bad’ thing!
It has the potential to be hugely transformative and powerful (good ole Pluto in Capricorn) and to bring us more harmony and equality in all of our relationships (and the life areas ruled by Libra in our unique charts).
Our intentions at this New Moon should be focused on all of the relationships in our lives, the life areas ruled by Libra in our unique chart, the relationships in those life areas (whether with a person or a theme) and of course, the most important relationship of all - with ourselves.
For now, in the dark moon phase, take a look at your chart.
See where this New Moon falls exactly or look at the Soulstrology zodiac guide below and the life areas ruled by Libra in your unique chart and think about the Soulstrology themes and how these can be applied to your life.
